Dear Clients & Friends,
We are happy to share with you an update from Sage Rhino Capital LLC for the first quarter of 2026.
Markets
This was certainly a noisy one.
The S&P 500 finished the quarter down 4.33%1, after a drop of nearly 5% in March. Smaller stocks fared better across the board: S&P 500 Equal Weight rose 0.67%,1 mid-caps gained 2.50%,1 and small-caps 3.51%.1
International equities meandered: Developed ex-U.S. ended down 0.05%1 and Emerging Markets down 2.57%,1 both reversing their strong start after the dramatic sell off in March. The volatility in interest rates didn’t help the U.S. Aggregate Bond Index that finished the quarter down 0.11%.1
Looking ahead, we are constructive on domestic mid-cap and small-cap equities as well as international stocks. Mega-cap U.S. stocks should be approached with caution, given stretched valuations. We expect continued volatility in both equity and credit markets.

A New Standard for Integration
Jeff Bezos famously observed that the most durable business strategies are built not around what will change, but around what never will. Customers will always want faster service, more accurate and thoughtful answers, and better value. It is a question we ask ourselves constantly at Sage Rhino: what can we do better, faster, and at better value for our clients? AI is making that possible at a scale we couldn’t have imagined a few years ago.
AI is rewiring the economics of financial advice. Tasks that once took hours: synthesizing tax documents, modeling equity compensation scenarios, stress-testing an estate plan, running insurance coverage gaps against a liquidity event, can now be completed in minutes. The cost of sophisticated, multi-domain analysis is collapsing. Institutional-quality thinking, once reserved for the ultra-wealthy, is rapidly becoming available to everyone.
We are leaning into this directly and deliberately.
Over the last year we have been crystallizing our commitment to a single idea: true integration across your complete financial life, not just your investment portfolio. Everything connected to it: federal and state income taxes, estate planning and trust structures, insurance coverage and gaps, equity compensation in all its forms e.g. RSUs, ESPPs, options, founder shares and concentrated positions, retirement accounts, and the interactions between all of them.
The goal is a single, cohesive picture of your entire financial world: comprehensive, current, and
actionable.
Integration, in a word, is the goal, and it is not a new one.
We have always believed that taxes, estate planning, insurance, and investments should be analyzed together, not in separate silos by advisors who never speak to one another. The problem was never the concept. It was execution. Pulling together a coherent picture across your CPA, your estate attorney, and your investment advisor required enormous manual effort. Often it stalled, not for lack of trying, but because of the friction involved: incompatible systems, scheduling, and frankly, the professional territoriality that exists in every advisory relationship. The best CPAs and estate attorneys are running their own practices, serving their own clients, and have little incentive to subordinate their work into someone else’s framework. That is not criticism; it is simply reality.
We want to be clear: we don’t think the answer is consolidation. The model where one firm employs your investment advisor, your CPA, and your estate attorney under one roof sounds efficient in theory. In practice, it produces mediocrity across the board, and it makes you captive. The best and most motivated practitioners, in any domain, want to run their own businesses. The most exacting and thoughtful clients want the freedom to make changes without unraveling an entire relationship. We believe you should have the best CPA for your situation, the best estate attorney for your situation, and the best investment advisor for your situation – working together, not merged together.
What AI changes is the coordination layer. It allows us to hold the integrated picture across all your advisors and all your planning domains without requiring anyone to give up their independence. We run the analysis. We surface the interactions. We bring the questions to the right professionals at the right time. The friction that made true integration impractical for most clients is now solvable.
What this delivers is straightforward: faster answers, deeper analysis, and clearer recommendations at no additional cost. For clients navigating equity compensation, a pending IPO, or a concentrated position in a single stock, this matters enormously. The tax treatment of your RSUs affects your estate plan. Your concentrated position affects your insurance strategy. Your liquidity timeline affects everything. We are building the capability to hold all of that in view at once.
AI is also a great equalizer. The analytical tools now available to a focused independent firm like ours are the same tools available to the largest institutions in the country. The technology gap has closed. What AI cannot replicate, and what remains the decisive variable in this profession, is the advisor who is genuinely present, diligent, and has a deep relationship with you. Knowledge is increasingly commoditized. Judgment, attention, and trust are not and never will be.
A word on security. The work we are describing requires us to handle some of your most sensitive financial information: tax returns, estate documents, equity schedules, insurance policies. We do not take that lightly. Every AI tool and vendor we work with is evaluated for capability and data handling alike. We use providers who do not train their models on client information, who operate under strict data privacy standards, and who are built for professional and institutional use, not consumer applications. Your information is used to serve you, full stop. We will continue to hold every tool we adopt to that standard, and we will be transparent with you if anything changes.
This is a living commitment, not a finished product. You should expect more proactive outreach when something in your financial picture warrants attention, more integrated analysis across planning domains, and a higher bar for every meeting and every recommendation.
More to come. As always, reach out anytime.
Thank you for your continued support.
Warmly,
Sage Rhino Capital LLC
